Sensuously Refined Architecture

Roberts Wineware White Wine Glass

Texture

Texture brings the critical element of touch into the wine-drinking experience. Unlike traditional glassware that concentrates on the grape and the shape, the Roberts Supertaster Series focuses on magnifying the perception—and pleasure—of the wine drinker through the sense of touch.

By adding textural elements near the rim of the wine glasses, Roberts Wineware combines the science of glass shape with an amplified response to taste.

Allow us to explain.

Studies show that saliva is needed to process and register flavor. The texture excites neural receptors in the tongue and lips, driving salivary secretions. The result: an awakening of the palate for enhanced taste awareness.

Research studies from the University of California Davis School of Viticulture and Enology, have shown that individuals with higher salivation rates tend to be more perceptive tasters... principally because tannins bind naturally with proteins in saliva. The more saliva present, the greater the tannin/protein interaction. The result is a reduction of tannin’s astringent effects for the taster. When balanced in a wine, tannins bestow richness and satisfaction...their integrative properties enhancing soulfulness. When unbalanced, they deliver excessive astringency which can be off-putting - hiding the wine’s charms.

Well-Proportioned Bowls

The Supertaster Series No. 1 stemware collection features a strikingly elegant silhouette defined by bowls that promote proper wine aeration and release of the specific varietal’s composition.

Essentially, there are two important aspects of wine glass shape for the wine drinker to consider: the size of the bowl relative to the type of wine it will hold and the slope of the glass as it nears the rim.

Bowl size determines the amount of surface area available for the wine to naturally aerate in the wine glass. The narrowing of the bowl as it approaches the wine glass’s rim helps direct and concentrate the wine’s aroma toward the nose. With its simple, clean lines, the shape and Taste Stimulating Textures work in harmony.

Sensuous Stems

At Roberts Wineware, we celebrate the stem.

Wine appreciation is a uniquely sensual pursuit. The stemware engaged in this pursuit must be equally sensual.

Physical objects, be it the human body, a race car, sculpture or a wine glass, display their sensuality best at the point of transition as their shapes evolve and flow, build, recede or simply change.

The stem plays a critical role in the architecture of the Roberts wine glass. It holds the key to the glass’s sensuality and refined, classic elegance. The Supertaster Series is thoughtfully designed with a stems that convey both fragility and strength in the hand.

Long live the Stem.
